New York City Motorcyclists
(NYC-Moto) was begun as a private mailing list by
Steve Manes in the early 90s to coordinate weekend
trips and pizza runs with a few online friends. In early 1994, the list was made
available to the public by
subscription.
In early 1995, this was bridged to the newly-created regional newsgroup
nyc.motorcycles
(the bridge was removed in 1996 due to spammers).
As of 1/2004, the NYC-Moto list supported 408 subscribers,
most residing within the greater New York City area. Its centerpiece has become
the now legendary
Tuesday Night Hang, which attracts riders from all over
the tri-state area, and even curious visitors from as far away as Australia and Russia.
The list, which is distributed daily in digest format, discusses
everything related to urban motorcycle survival.
